TDMA-based MAC Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: State of the Art and Important Research Issues

This paper gives a short overview of the state of the art of time-division multiple access (TDMA) based medium access control (MAC) protocols for wireless sensor networks (WSN). These sensor networks have special requirements on MAC protocols, which make it impossible to function efficiently with the help of ordinary wireless MAC protocols. Research challenges and state of the art are described and open research questions are pointed out.
